South Bend, Indiana - July 2, 2007 - Area production company Pentavision Communicationss, along with Goshen College students, Goshen College Associate Professor of Communication Patricia McFarlane and Free-lance Producer Ed Cundiff of Michigan are all winners at this years Annual WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival competition. The group won a Gold Remi for “Watu Wa Amani-People of Peace”, and a Silver Remi for “Dreaming a New South Africa”. Both documentary's were shot in numerous locations throughout Africa. “People of Peace...” is a sharing of stories among African victims of genocide. The Kenyan conference was sponsored by the three traditional Peace Churches: The Quakers, Church of the Bretheran and The Mennonites. “Dreaming A New South Africa” is a collaborative effort between the Goshen College Journalism Department chaired by Duane Stolzfus and the Mennonite Mission Network, who’s CEO, Stanley Greene, is a native of South Africa. The documentary follows the work of missionaries in Post-Apartheid South Africa.
Pentavision’s Ryan Geist edited both documentaries and was videographer for “Dreaming A New South Africa”. Executive Producer, Patricia McFarlane organized grant funding along with Dean Johnson, administrator of the Plowshares grant at Goshen College. Producer Ed Cundiff wrote and voiced “Dreaming A New South Africa”. Mr. Cundiff and Ms. McFarlane Co-Produced “Watu Wa Amani-People of Peace”.
Both documentaries involved strong student involvement with students functioning as Production Assistants, Associate Producers, Writers, and Videographers.
Nearly five thousand entries from 37 countries were received for this year’s International World-Fest Houston.
